did my normal single track loop today. was rough going. we have about 12" of loose granular snow. some of this trail had seen no snowmobile use or just a couple of passes. made for a few miles of hiking. ran the frozen stream and it was a very technical ride with lots of 6" to 12" variations in ice height and lots of large blowdown. busted trough once and went down lightly in a tuck and roll. had some more hiking then rode out on a groomed hardpack snowmobile trail for abut a mile.

studs worked as expected. i ended up putting them on the Haro.

even though it was a hard ride, it left me wanting to do more. i wish i brought a camera as the ice portion was unbelievable.

guess i'm the only one still riding... road up around Lake Luzerne today. thought about riding across, but i didn't have the studded bike. probably about a 7 mile ride, half of it with snow on the road to make it a workout.

yup. mine's hung up in the garage, I'm having too much fun with the snowshoes to get studs on it, and everywhere I'd ride it would see salt and I'm not too keen on that. Haven't been to the scrap yard to see if there are any winter beaters for me there

little chilly at 14F for a ride but the roads were dry so i made the best of the conditions. it felt good to do some road miles and ride a few laps of Lake Luzerne. the studs really give a work out on pavement if you are trying to push.

after peering down an abandoned ice fishing hole, it appears there is over 2 feet of clear ice on this lake.

I just went to Flordia and brought the mountain bikes. I rode about 7 miles
to dry off after swimming in Alafia Springs.

This is great a bike thread on a ORV site, who could ask for more.

had a nice ride today. the snowmobile trails are closed and gated, so i took advantage of that and got in about 10 miles on mixed ice, dirt, and pavement with the studded bike. felt good to get out in the woods on 2 wheels. the downhill ice sections on the snowmobile trail were amazingly fast..., way faster than in the summer. i had one spill at speed, but luckily managed tuck and roll landing in soft snow. 8-)

tried to do my normal summer loop, but still too much snow to do anything but hike-a-bike.

looking forward to getting the 29er out.

Im pretty excited to be getting the bike out next week. All i need is a new crank bolt and im ready to go. I might try to sell the db off for the right number and find something a little nicer with a smaller frame. I hate smackin my grundle on the frame when i have to step off fast

did my normal sumertime loop in the counter-clockwise direction today. seems about time to pull the studded tires off the geared bike. there still was some ice here and there, but it could be avoided.

glad i rode through the winter when i could, i felt pretty good today for the seasons first real ride...
